1-30-15
today i took the first test of this class. i think i did really well because one of my blog post had a lot of the answers. now i know how important it is to have a good blog because if you have a good blog itself thats points, then occasionally you will be able to use it for the test. also if you study the powerpoint then you will get an A. the test is made straight from the powerpoint. from now on i think i will know how to study correctly.

we studied for the mod with mr Shick . i used the powerpoint to study off of and will continue to study off of it until the test. i am focusing on these main topics until the test

  • the gods of mesopotamia
  • king Hammurabi and his "code"
  • indo-europeans
  • Egypt and the 2 lands
  • pharaohs
  • Egyptian gods and goddesses
  • after life of Egyptians
  • the Egyptians form of writing
  • Egyptian sailboats and calendars
  • egyptian pyramids and temples
i do not know how the tests are in this class but i will prepare for anything for the first one. from then on i will be able to know what to focus on and what to study in detail and whats less important

When and where did human beings first emerge? south Africa
Why did the period known as "prehistory" end? 1200 B.C.
What made the rise of civilization possible? agriculture
Name some early technological innovations. the spear, the axe/tomahawk, shovel, etc
How did hunter/gatherers live? the hunter and gatherers were nomadic and moved from place to place
Who was King Hammurabi, and why was he important? King Hammurabi of Babylon created a series of laws known as “Hammurabi’s Code” - laws that included “an eye for an eye” and regulations of marriage, divorce, and punishments for all sorts of crimes

Define these terms:

  • prehistory-The Origins and “Ages” of Human Beings
  • Paleolithic Age-Earliest prehistoric age is the Paleolithic age (Old Stone Age)

  • Neolithic Age-Neolithic Age (New Stone Age) was marked by advanced tool making and the beginnings of agriculture
  • Agricultural Revolution-Also known as the Neolithic Revolution, this was a shift from itinerant hunting/gathering to more permanent settlements centered on agriculture (beginning in southwestern Asia)
  • cuneiform- the first form of writing
  • ziggurat-the Ziggurat was a Sumerian temple built on top of a “mountain” of earth
  • Indo-Europeans-Indo-Europeans were people from the grasslands of the Russian steppe who introduced the horse to the Near East
Find 'em on a map:
  • Mesopotamia-near present day Iraq and Iran
  • Fertile Crescent- the nutrient rich land  near the tigris and euphrates rivers
  • Sumer-the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers
  • Mediterranean Sea- the body of water below present day Europe
  • Asia Minor-north of the Mediterranean sea and south of the black se
  • Tigris River- a river coming out of the east of the Mediterranean sea and is above the euphrates river
  • Euphrates River- a river coming out of the east side of the Mediterranean sea and is below the tigris river

first we learned how this class works and the basics about the class. in class we learned how to set up our blogs and im not sure if i got it down right. Probably not but oh well! after we TRIED to set up our blogs we sat and talked until the final bell rang.
